Farmers Are Not The Main Climate Change Culprits: William Taylor

Farmers For Action

PRESS RELEASE

29th January 2020

Farmers Are Not The Main

Climate Change Culprits

Finally, confirmation that farmers are not the main climate change culprits from an expert who forced United Nations Food and Agricultural organisation the FAO to change its results, after it claimed that livestock is responsible for 18% of global greenhouse gas emissions – making it a greater emitter than the global transport sector – which is simply not true!

That expert is Dr Frank Mitloehner, a professor and air quality specialists in the Department of Animal Science at the University of California. A native of Germany, the eminently qualified Dr Mitloehner has a degree in animal science, a Masters in agricultural engineering (specialising in the environmental impact of livestock) and a PhD on the environmental management of feedlot cattle.

Beyond his US base, Dr Mitloehner has worked in an agri-environmental impact capacity in Australia, South Africa, Paraquay, South America and China. His expertise has regularly informed both national and international carbon policy.

The good Doctor makes the case that the vegan drive – though consumption is minimal across the world is a corporate drive by the fossil fuel industry to shift blame for climate change in order that people will get into their vehicles and drive content that they are not to blame, board airlines on their holidays or otherwise, content that airlines are not to blame. Meanwhile, Farmers For Action have discovered that 20litres of aviation fuel burnt taxiing on the ground is the equivalent of 5litres burnt at 20,000 feet+ in terms of harmful emissions.

In addition, when aviation around the world was grounded during the 9/11 twin towers terror attacks the worlds average temperatures dropped by 2 degrees during those two days.

William Taylor FFA NI says ‘that it is time for the politicians and vegans to read the facts from Dr Mitloehner, then ban air travel every other day and they will lower the earth’s temperature by one degree, thereby buying the time to eliminate the fossil fuels consumed on the ground and replace fossil fuel in the air asap by speeding up innovation already in progress. It should be noted that Israel has already built an 8seater electric short-haul commute plane which may not be the complete solution but it’s a start and could be used on non-fly days!

To conclude, we now have the evidence to lay climate change at the door of fossil fuel use around the world and we as farmers will no longer take the blame in full as is currently the case. Instead, we need to focus on legislation on farm gate prices, as we are now doing in Northern Ireland with our new Stormont Government, to once again make agriculture profitable so that we can do our bit to feed the masses by moving away from fossil fuels and making every effort to control any harmful gas emissions by good practises and changes afoot.

It is worth noting that alternative fuel tractors, farm handlers, quads and vehicles are becoming available. At this point it can only be said that vegans need to be so careful with their influence on young people, not receiving the right nutrients to build healthy bodies and minds, in addition as a farming industry and considering most vegans give up after 12 months it is an absolute disgrace for corporate food retailers to be promoting and ripping them off by charging them over twice the price for their food. Worst of all it shows the absolute contempt that retailers have for farmers when they are happy to go down the vegan route to fill their pockets off the back of lies and dam lies!’
